I cleaned my "drawers of chaos" out yesterday, from sheer boredom, and it actually turned out to be quite interesting. I found notes from Birk and Cait and Adam, my Lilly book and all of my old journals. Along with the usual stuff, ya know, a Peter Pan hat a thimble and assorted birthday cards written on computer paper that say "Purple? lol. Happy birthday." But I was greatly amused to find my blue poetry book from 7th grade...which included the infamous Weather Poem. So here it is in its entirety:
A hurricane is coming! It just hit the Bahamas!
Batten down the hatches and tie up your llamas!
Come inside where we will be safe from harm
Don't stand around! Its a red alarm!
Even now hail is coming in force
Forcefully throwing rescue boats off-course
Great big waves are coming in from the bay
Hold on tight, you might blow away.
Impending waves are coming this way!
Just think, this only started today.
Kayaks do cartwheels, I swear, I dont lie.
Look out! I think your cow just flew by!
Mercy! We plead. We dont want to die.
Never had we thought of life jackets to buy.
Octopi soar through the air and then fall
Please spare us! Said the people, not at all
Quiet. While
Rushing to their homes they tripped over debris and started a riot.
Stupid palms! They all yelled. They were all quite upset.
They were tired and cold and thoroughly wet.
Umbrellas were no use, they folded inside out
Vegetables flew and rolled all about.
Women screamed and children cried.
X-Files called to see if someone had died.
Youd better be careful; storms may come to get you. So
Zoom to your house and hide till they're through.
And I'll explain that the erratic line structure is due to the "Alphabet format". haha, Caity Birk, 7th grade was fun.
