If we had a thunderstorm last night, I didn't hear it. We kept seeing the flashes though. "Thunder or lightning. Which one makes noise? I can never tell those apart" "Lightning has light." "Well, that's a good way to remember it."
We went swimming yesterday. Which makes me laugh now, because Birk's profile has
"mom caught me in the pool with Jules."
"...and?"
"we weren't swimming."
We did actually swim. But it still makes me laugh. We went in the hottub too, for about an hour and 1/2, which I think is a health hazard. There's just something about hottubs.
Donna called yesterday morning at 9 and asked if I could babysit for a little while. I was at Tom's till 5:30. We played every board game, read 16 Dr. Suess books and watched an hour long Disney Christmas special. By 3 I was posing Spiderman figurines into every ballet position I could remember. "Spiderman doesn't dance." "But, Tom, look how graceful he is. And he's already wearing a leotard."
My cactus is dying. Miles bought me a cactus for the main reason that it would be difficult to kill. I have exceeded all expectations. It's now orange and shriveling in my care. I am less nourishing than a desert.
So last night's conversations covered everything from window valences to child-bearing hips. Ugh, Those would be terrible Jeopardy categories. "I'll take Window Valances for 400, Alex." "I'm sorry, the answer was 'what are child-bearing hips', it has to be in the form of a question." But that's not relevant. We talked about the Navy and Christmas vacation and all of my fears were adressed. "The sky is red here," he told me,"from the lights in town. At my house the sky is blue-black. You can see a thousand stars and the moon glows like the sun." You wax poetical, I thought. But I don't think he would have gotten it.
