middleboro had its fireworks on sunday, and we laughed at the carnival and sat on the blue blanket that has seen so many summer nights.

the middleboro parade is in the historic part of town, where you never really go except for, well, the fourth of july. it's one of those things molly and I grew up with, the chowder band and the decorations and the costumes. the occasional bout of heat stroke.
the parade is mainly tractors, antique cars, and the odd float. after being passed over when candy was thrown to the crowd, we discovered politicians respond to eager cries of we can vote!
perched on the edge of plymouth harbor, we were surrounded by amateur displays of fireworks before the actual show. there were showers of sparks along the beach, and through the trees by the marina. everything reflected off the water.

happy fourth of july.
